CUPFA Announces Recipient of Special Project Award:
CUPFA is proud to announce that the recipient of our 2016-17 Special Project Award is part-time professor Krzysztof Dzieciolowski, for his research in Big Data.
“Dr. Dzieciolowski’s project, entitled “Bridging Academic and Industry Expertise for Big Data Probabilistic Data Matching,” explores how algorithms of Big Data have the potential to radically change modern economies on a global scale.
Dr. Dzieciolowski will receive a $10,000 grant from the Concordia University Part-time Faculty Association to create a collaborative research project between Concordia and an industry partner in order to develop new methodologies in data matching. He will be working with undergraduate research assistants from the John Molson School of Business, providing them with a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in real world problem solving by applying skills they learn in the classroom.
One of the most recognized experts in the field of Data Mining in Canada, Dr. Dzieciolowski has been teaching at JMSB for 22 years. He has delivered courses in Data Mining, Research Methods, Software for Decision Making, and Statistics. Dr. Dzieciolowski was instrumental in introducing a highly successful minor program in Data Intelligence in JMSB, the only undergraduate program of its kind in Canada. Most recently, he has championed the creation of a partnership between JMSB and SAS Institute, the world’s largest statistical software company, to acquire state-of-the-art data mining software and to develop a JMSB-SAS Joint Certification in Business Analytics, which will be launched in the spring of 2016.
Alongside teaching and research, Dr. Dzieciolowski directs the Campaign and Analytics team at Rogers Communications – a leading mobile operator in Canada. He received a M.Sc. in Mathematics from the University of Warsaw (Poland) and completed his Ph.D. in Statistics at Queen’s University in Kingston (Ontario). The winner of many business awards for the implementation of innovative tools for planning and optimizing key investments in telecommunications, he is also an active cyclist, coach of the soccer team and volleyball player in the Concordia intramural leagues.
Dr. Dzieciolowski has been invited by the Undergraduate Programs Office, John Molson School of Business to be a guest speaker.
