Finance Committee
The Finance Committee is a standing committee of the Executive; members are the CUPFA President and Treasurer. Its objective is to ensure that income and expenditures are properly accounted for and that all financial transactions are completed in accordance with government regulations. The Finance Committee prepares an annual budget for the membership; liaises with the auditors to ensure that audited financial statements are prepared for the Association; oversees the financial needs of the Association concerning all investments and expenditures.
Grievance Committee
The Grievance Committee is chaired by the Association’s Vice-President Collective Agreement and Grievance with the President and Assistant to the VP Collective Agreement and Grievance as members. They review and conduct research on grievances and disciplinary cases and prepare for grievance, arbitration and/or court hearings. The Committee oversees the Grievance Clinic where members present issues about their working conditions or about the CUPFA Collective Agreement.
Professional Development Committee
The Professional Development Committee is a joint employer/union committee chaired by CUPFA’s Chair of Research and Professional Development and may include a Research and Professional Development Assistant. The Committee assesses all requests for the distribution of PD funds in accordance with CUPFA’s Collective Agreement for eligible projects submitted by members, and oversees the administration of Small Claims.
Negotiation Committee
The Negotiations Committee is an ad-hoc Committee chaired by the Vice President Collective Agreement and Grievance who is also CUPFA’s Chief Negotiator. The Negotiating Committee coordinates all activities, presentations, and submission of Articles in the CUPFA Collective Agreement to our employer during contract negotiations. The “Nego Team” will ensure that the membership receives updates about the progress of negotiations.
CUPFA Advisory Council
CUPFA Advisory Council was created to increase communication and consultation; composition includes the Executive and CUPFA members who are active on various University bodies and Committees. Advisory Council meets at least twice each academic year to exchange information on negotiations, grievances, University policies affecting part-time faculty, and other special issues. Collaboration and planning are enriched by discussions with CUPFA members working with University administrative and decision-making bodies such as Board of Governors; Senate; Faculty Councils (Arts and Science, Fine Arts, JMSB, Engineering and Computer Science); Pension Committee; Environmental Health and Safety Committees; Employee Assistance Program; Teaching and Learning Committees; University Library Committee; PT representation on Advisory Search Committees for senior administrators, etc.
Council of Representatives
The Council of Representatives is composed of all PT faculty representatives participating on department committees, including: PT Hiring Committee (PTHC), Department Council (DC), Curriculum Committee (CC), Advisory Search Committees (renewal / selection of department chairs), and other committees a department may create. CUPFA department committee representatives receive regular training on the Collective Agreement and defend the working conditions of PT faculty at the department level. In addition, CUPFA department representatives are mandated to communicate with PT faculty in their departments about events, issues, etc. communicated by the CUPFA Executive. The Council of Representatives meets at least once each academic year to exchange information and concerns with CUPFA’s executive. Especially during contract negotiations, all PT faculty representatives contribute to facilitating communication, activities, and planning.
