What is the Concordia University Part-time Faculty Association (CUPFA)?
Recognized since 1989 by the Quebec Ministry of Labour, CUPFA is an association of part-time faculty employed by Concordia University to represent and work for its members. The Association defends members’ rights and negotiates on their behalf; it also supports and showcases their professional development, creative endeavors, and academic research.
As a union, the Association has developed solid coalitions with the Concordia University Inter-Union Council, student federations and groups, CAUT (Canadian Association of University Teachers), and with the COCAL movement of contract faculty across Canada, the United States, and Mexico.
Our Association supports members, students, and Concordia as an institution of higher learning and actively participates on all University bodies and committees. On the Board of Governors, Senate, Faculty Councils, Departmental and special or ad-hoc committees, CUPFA representatives help formulate academic and administrative policies and advance the academic mission along with faculty pedagogical and employment needs.
CUPFA remains an independent union; while not affiliated with a central union in Quebec, our mission is to serve our members directly. CUPFA’s Executive and dedicated staff focus on quality service and responsive communication within our membership. We remain vigilant and proactive about the working conditions of members and recognize the importance of every member’s well-being as we work together in solidarity.
